mannerisms and gait
induced or altered states
biographical characters
gender with which one doesn’t identify with
historical mannerisms and etiquette
neurological disabilities
to name just a few….
The work is in dialogue with the director and the actor with the goal to capture the character’s physical story through accurate and nuanced gestures of expression.
Movement Education for Actors in Vancouver
“Your body is the envelope of your past.” — Joseph Gifford
The foundation of actor movement is rooted in body awareness and the psycho-physical connection in order to assist the actors’ transformation on stage. Idiosyncrasies begin to develop from the moment one is born and, hence, it is the actor’s responsibility to learn how to decipher where their physical and emotional inefficiencies reside in order to adapt their habitual tendencies, producing a versatile and responsive instrument. Natasha draws from several methodologies including: Laban Movement Analysis, Body-Mind Centering®, Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints, and Jacques Lecoq’s exploration of neutral mask, images, and elements.
Somatics
“When the body is experienced from within, the body and mind are not separated but are experienced as a whole.” —
Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen
We are all unique individuals, and part of our genetic make-up is to honor that uniqueness within ourselves. And yet sometimes history, influenced by genetics, trauma, illness, or injury, can influence patterns within our body that don’t necessarily speak to our full potential as expressive human beings. As a somatic educator based in Vancouver, Natasha enables the individual to access new patterns of functionality and expressivity through mindful-consciousness facilitated through movement, voice, and touch. Modalities of movement include: Yoga, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® method, Body-Mind Centering®, and Laban Movement Analysis.
